A new art exhibit by Rockford, Illinois, printmaker Javier Jimenez is now viewable until April 18, 2022, in Elgin Community College’s Safety-Kleen Gallery One in Building H, Rm H100. The gallery is open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.; attendance is free and open to the public. The exhibit, “Different Sh*t, Different Day,” is a play on the popular vernacular phrase “Same Sh*t, Different Day.” It is a colloquial phrase that criticizes the monotony of life and work and is often heard in offices, job sites, restaurants, or retail. Jobs vital to modern everyday life are not often considered a part of a creative field.

Jimenez found his escape from the same daily routine through art, allowing him to treat each day with endless possibilities. The show reflects Jimenez’s experiences in various ways, such as experimenting and filling his studio with prints of ideas and projects at different stages of creation. These experiments led him to create three specific screens for printing his work, restricting the process to only red and blue colors. These parameters are a metaphor for all the things that may limit someone.
