Criminal Incident Information

The college prepares, publishes, and disseminates statistical reports on crimes and arrests defined under the Crime Awareness and Campus Safety Act of 1990, CFR 668.41, and makes every effort to disclose accurate and complete statistics through appropriate publications and the college website.

Campus Safety Report

ECC police officers are constantly patrolling the hallways, parking lots, and other areas of the college so that our presence is a deterrence to the crime of theft. Guarding your personal belongings and valuables in conjunction with police presence helps make a real difference at ECC.

To provide timely notice to the college community in the event of a serious incident which may pose a threat to members of the college community, the police chief may issue a crime alert on all campuses. Crime alerts are usually posted for the following classifications:

  • murder and non-negligent manslaughter
  • negligent manslaughter
  • sex offenses
  • robbery
  • aggravated assault
  • burglary
  • motor vehicle theft
  • arson
  • domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking incidents
  • liquor law violations resulting in an arrest or disciplinary referral
  • drug law violations resulting in an arrest or disciplinary referral
  • illegal weapons violations resulting in an arrest or disciplinary referral
  • all hate crimes based upon race, religion, ethnicity, national origin, gender, gender identity

This monitoring report is required through the Crime Awareness and Campus Security Act of 1990, DFR 668.41, and has been compiled with information supplied by the Elgin Police Department as well as the Elgin Community College Police Department.

A daily crime log is available for review at the ECC Police Department in Building D, Room D140. The information in the crime log may include the nature, date, time, general location, and disposition of each crime.

Sexual Assault

Registered Sex Offender Information

The Illinois State Police provides a list of registered sex offenders, which can be accessed online. The online database is updated daily and allows searches by name, city, county, and zip code. Information about registered sex offenders may be obtained at the following web address: Illinois State Police Sex Offender Database.

This information is provided under the mandates of the Campus Sex Crimes Prevention Act (section 1601 of public law 106.386, enacted October 28, 2000).

Response to Sexual Assault

Rape and all forms of sexual assault are illegal and violations of the ECC student code of conduct. The ECC Police Department utilizes the "Model Guidelines and Sex Crimes Investigation Manual" published by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board when responding to incidents involving sexual assault. While most victims of sexual assault are women, some men are also victims. Male victims at ECC receive the same services as women. Emotional support, wellness services, legal advocacy, and medical treatment are available to assist all those recovering from sexual assault.
