My journey at Elgin Community College has been not only long and arduous, but quite rewarding and meaningful! After graduating a semester early from high school in January 2015, I had a head start on beginning my college career at ECC, where I’ve worked hard to earn my associate degree in management.

While working toward that degree, I joined the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary in January 2016, where I’m currently a staff officer of communication services. Being a part of this organization is a great fit for me as it allows me to serve the community.

When I’m not doing coursework or coast guard duties, I’m a caregiver for my grandmother, who suffers from mild dementia, is in a wheelchair, and blind. While it might sometimes be hard, she is always supportive of me and I’m happy to help her.

I have had a great support system here at ECC. Alongside my grandmother, my parents, my girlfriend, my best friends, and my family members have all been my major supporters in getting to this point. I don’t think I could have done this without their love and support.

The entirety of my journey at ECC was full of much hard work and dedication. If I could do it all over again, though, I would. This journey not only helped me develop academically, but my time here also helped me grow as a person, come out of my shell, and just be myself!
