Learning English was one of the most important goals that I wanted to achieve when I moved to the United States in 2013. Back then, I only knew a couple words, and I could not understand anything when someone was talking to me. I felt frustrated because I really wanted to know what people were talking about and to be a part of their conversation. There were days where I wanted to ask for something but could not because I did not know how to; I felt like I had lost my voice.

Fortunately, someone told me about Elgin Community College and its ESL program. I registered in 2014. Time has passed, and I can proudly say that ECC has given me back my voice. In addition to that, I gained a lot of confidence in myself, and I started taking GED classes so that I could attend college and get a degree.

Now, I am getting ready to attend ECC as a full-time student, and I intend to get an Associate of Applied Science in computer manufacturing. Even though I have worked hard to achieve these goals, I know that without ECC, I would not be here.

I am so thankful for my ESL teachers Linda Ritcher, Molly Bryant, Cecile Amador, Esther Yoon, Anita Armstrong Tunc, Alina Lukaczyk, Elizabeth Mathews, and Colleen Stribling. They played a crucial role in my life, and I will always remember them.

Finally, to those thinking about coming to ECC, I would like to say that this a place where everyone is welcomed and where every dream can come true with hard work and perseverance.
