Elgin Community College will host the next event in the Bill Pelz Global Speaker Series, “#TimesUp: Gender Dynamics at Home and from a Global Perspective” on Wednesday, Oct. 2 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Spartan Auditorium (Building G, Room G100), 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin. The event is free and open to the public.
ECC professors Kellen Bolt, LaTasha DeHaan, Lori Clark, and Marisol Rivera will lead a roundtable discussion of how gender intersects with history, politics, education, and LGTBQ concerns.
“The lively roundtable foursome of dynamic History and English faculty will engage in the subject of global gender politics,” said Christina Marrocco, ECC associate professor of English and GIST faculty co-chair. “[All attendees] are sure to gain new perspective and information at this event.”
The Bill Pelz Global Speaker Series was named in memory of the late William Pelz, PhD, who taught history and political science at ECC for over 19 years. The program is sponsored by the ECC Global/International Studies Team (GIST), Multicultural and Global Initiatives Committee (MAGIC) and ECC Faculty Association (ECCFA).
“Through thoughtful, engaging discussion on current international events, GIST, MAGIC and ECCFA aim to promote critical thought about the state of global affairs and further our understanding about the world,” said Lauren Nehlsen, ECC director of international education and programs and GIST administrative co-chair.
