Confirmed case with limited campus exposure

On Thursday, Sept. 10, 2020, Elgin Community College was notified that a student who attended a class in Building A last week recently tested positive for COVID-19. The affected area is mainly limited to an isolated space on campus. A thorough cleaning and disinfecting of the area, including the hallways and bathrooms, was conducted.

Additionally, please be assured that the following is also taking place on a regular basis to help mitigate the risk of exposure:

  • The custodial team is performing deep cleaning of the facilities
  • The engineers routinely run the drinking fountains, faucets, and flush toilets to ensure a healthy water supply free from bacteria and disease
  • Routine air quality testing is occurring throughout campus

Students who might have been exposed have all been identified and notified. Human Resources will reach out to employees who might have been exposed within 48 hours. Additionally, we continue to work closely with the Kane County Health Department (KCHD) to ensure that all contact tracing procedures are being followed. In accordance with federal privacy laws, personal information of individuals involved will remain strictly confidential.

To reduce the spread of COVID-19, ECC continues to require temperature checks for everyone entering the campus, mandatory face coverings, adherence to social distancing and increased cleaning protocols for all campus buildings. Additionally, everyone is encouraged to stay home if you are feeling sick.
