James Allen - Student Member
James G. Allen, Jr. grew up in a small town in south New Jersey and moved to the greater Chicago area in June 2005. Since living in Illinois, he has worked for one of the largest airlines in the world and has been an active member and elected representative of his Union, Association of Flight Attendants-CWA. James, and his partner Peter, moved to Elgin in the summer of 2018 to provide a better life for themselves and their family, James’ nephew William, and mother Geraldine. In early 2020 at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, James decided to reenter college to finish his educational goals. Since being a student at Elgin Community College, he has been elected to Student Government as the Executive Vice President and has been involved with several clubs on campus, including Students Who Are Not Silent (SWANS) and Phi Theta Kappa (PTK). James plans to continue his involvement within the college and helping advance the voices of the student body as the Student Member of the Board of Trustees while continuing to earn a dual degree, Associates in Arts and Associate of Applied Sciences in Paralegal. As the first openly gay Student Trustee, he looks forward to ensuring the LGBTQAI+ and minority groups are heard at the college through his commitment to the District 509 Board of Trustees. After graduating James plans to volunteer at one or more of the many local outreach not-for-profit organizations which help low-income individuals and families, the homeless, victims of human trafficking, and the LGBTQAI+ community in the Elgin area.
Term Expires: April 2022
