Proctoring Policy 4.409
Faculty are responsible for monitoring students during exams for any course sections that include a face-to-face component (e.g., traditional sections and hybrid sections).
Hybrid sections are defined as courses in which approximately 50 percent of instruction, evaluation, and communication are provided electronically via the course management system, and time required in a traditional classroom setting is reduced but not eliminated. Special circumstances requiring a proctored environment must be approved by the dean.
Online course sections are defined as courses that utilize the Internet as the principal source of access to the course content and communication for the student and faculty member. In certain circumstances, online course sections that do not include a face-to-face component may utilize the Testing Center to proctor exams. Proctoring is necessary when electronic exam security through the college’s Respondus system or through the use of D2L or some other testing platform is not feasible or when required for third party accreditation purposes or otherwise. Special circumstances requiring a proctored environment must be approved by the dean.
For online course sections that require exams to be proctored, the following policies must be followed:
- Students must be made aware of proctored exam requirements that are part of online course sections at the time of enrollment.
- Faculty teaching online sections are encouraged to include the following information in their syllabi and/or D2L course sections: This class requires proctored tests to be taken in an approved proctored testing environment, including on-campus at ECC in the testing center, Building B, Room 115. The instructor will notify the students of the test requirements and the dates/times the tests are to be taken. Students who are testing at ECC are required to bring a valid photo identification card or an ECC Student Identification Card to the testing center. Students will be able to register for tests at https://www2.registerblast.com/elgin/Exam/List. Students may arrange to take their exam in an alternate approved testing environment and will d be responsible for any applicable fees.
Scheduling proctored exams in the ECC Testing Center will be done through the RegisterBlast system. Faculty must submit a Request for Testing in the Testing Center form to the Director of Testing at least six (6) weeks prior to the date(s) of the test.
The Director of Testing must be notified regarding any requests to modify a proctored exam due to extenuating circumstances for resolution.
