a little ranting

today was my and my minions event with Abe Mashal. it went really well. Abe spoke to more than 50 students, there were some questions in the first session, but more in the second. it is good to see so many students shocked by what is occurring in congress as of late. they are finally realizing how quickly the "secret police" can disrupt our lives with little or no proof. all they need is to think that you might have information. scary? i would think so.

thank you to my minions for all your help, laura and pete.

also to leave the politics behind....

dear hipsters,

the heat is on in the building, so remove your knit cap, and when outside pull it all the way down on your noggin. Hipster guys, stay out of your sisters closet. those jeans don't fit you. belts are only effective if they are over your hips. also it wouldn't look like you were late to the bathroom if your jeans weren't from your little sisters bedroom. wereing glasses frames without lenses makes you look stupid, not cool. you are rebelling from the common thread trying to be individuals (i get it) but your individuality is EXACTLY the same as the other clownshoe hipsters around you. very individual of you. also v-neck t shirts arent supposed to plunge to the middle of your chest... those are for women, and they are called plunge neck blouses.

in closing, stay out of your little sisters dresser, and belts go above your waist.

till next time

upas and stuff

looks like things are rolling on the Union of Politically Aware Students club. going to be meeting a student on tuesday that is a veteran, a muslim, and on the no fly list... you get that?

he wrote a book about his experience entitled "No Spy, No Fly." how does that thing go again? Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise there of... Just checking.

and following that, i must say that as this is a public college i understand that everyone has a right to be heard, and the ability to form a club... even if it is just one person, but why is there a pro life club now? i'm not going to start rambling on about prolife / prochoice debates, but why is it that we cant keep those types of opinions to ourselves? is there a need for this club? do they provide scholarships for students? do they offer camaraderie to a large segment of the population at ecc? or is this just one more way for me to be assaulted by some religious zealot who thinks i actually give a..... about what they believe. maybe this is going to be inciting the wrong kind of attention, maybe people should mind their own business too. yes it is protected under the first amendment, but just cause you can doesn't mean you should.

state of the union

 Permanent link

one of the better state of the union addresses i've seen happened on last tuesday night. alot of good ideas in this one... alas bipartisanship will inevitably keep most from occurring. the most important thing to me was obviously President Obama's ideas on education. stop teaching the test and let passion lead the way for our teachers. how about that idea? i think this will lead to higher test scores because it will bring that passion to the students. this will spark their interests and more information will be retained. oh, and you can't drop out until you're 18... might as well learn something while you're there!!

college and university reform as well was a fine point to be made. good call barack, if tuition goes up... funding goes down. this way a degree isn't only for the wealthy. as it should be. democracy is only survived if the masses are educated.

primaries...

how is it that a twice adulterous hypocrite is now the front running conservative republican candidate? wow.

Get ready ECC... the time has come to get your voices heard in the political and civic arenas!! we are going to be doing alot of work on making sure everyone can make a difference in this ridiculousness that is our political landscape for the upcoming election...

Congratulations

(Phi Theta Kappa) Permanent link

well, sorry I missed last week... very hectic to say the least.

I would like to congratulate Samantha Migatz and Andrew Peterson on being nominated to the Phi Theta Kappa All USA Acedemic Team! You guys kick @$$ and I know you will do well both representing our Rho Kappa chapter and ECC. I wish you both the best of luck in winning a seat on the team.

Also, congrats to Ray Hernandez and Ashley Deithloff on their nominations for Distinguished Officer for Phi Theta Kappa. You both are what I would hope any new officer and any of the outstanding members would try emulate in their daily interactions here at ECC. Ashley's Scatter Kindness initiative seems to have set this campus ablaze with positivity and genuine kindness to others both here and in our community. You grace us all everyday with those values that are clearly not a facade, but a way of life for you. Ray's C4 is solidifying our students commitment to their own futures and potential, it is also a key factor in maintaining the faith of our students that not only do their peers believe in them, but the faculty and staff do too. His C2 goes further than just our students, affecting the lives of the children of our community in the best possible way, shaping their ideals and giving them a positive outlook at the early idea of becoming a not only future high school graduates, but also future college graduates. These programs will surely strengthen our community, our country and most importantly our democracy.

I must say it is an honor and privilege to work with you both and I wish to thank you for serving along side me in what I believe to be the best chapter of Phi Theta Kappa on the planet.

Sammie, you are rockin' it out this semester. Another congrats goes to you for being the Distinguished Member nomination for our chapter. Your work, voluntarism, and positivity are a great benefit to our chapter. You are an inspiration to  us all.

Please keep it up you four. You guys are what keeps our chapter as wonderful as it is.
