Season Outlook

Tradition never graduates and the Spartan baseball team has built a winning tradition here in Elgin over the last decade. No other baseball team in the area has accomplished what the Spartans have during that time. They have made 11 straight trips to the Region IV finals. In those 11 years, they have five NJCAA World Series appearances, five District championships, five Region IV championships, and four Region IV runner-up finishes.  In fact, in the last eight years the Spartans have been in the championship game for the region, winning it five of those eight times. With this being said, the Spartans have been on the wrong end of that game the last two years.

“When your program has had the success that ours has, if you don’t get to the World Series, you feel like you had a bad year,” said Head Coach Bill Angelo, who is entering his 14th year as Spartan skipper.  “That’s just the way it is here. Every year we expect to go to the World Series, and if we don’t get there, it is a disappointment.” With that being said, the Spartans expect to earn the program’s sixth trip to the NJCAA Division II World Series in Enid, Oklahoma.   More»
